Do You Need A Ghostwriter?

By Evan Bailyn

If you have a project pending or an idea simmering, you may have considered a ghostwriter – but with reservations. You may be unsure of what a ghostwriter can do for you and your project. You may even be unsure of what a ghostwriter does and how it will affect the credibility of your work. If you can't decide if you'd like to hire a ghost writer, ask yourself a few salient questions. Let the answers make the decision for you.

What Are Your Time Constraints?

Do you have a deadline that is right around the corner? Or have you been contemplating this writing project for so long that you don't want to spend another minute on it? If time is an issue, then a ghostwriter will help you finish your project on time and take some of the stress off your shoulders.

Do You Consider Yourself to be a Writer?

You may be a scientific genius, a math theory whiz, or an expert on the back roads of Guadalajara, but if you don't know how to organize what you know into sentences and paragraphs with a coherent flow, then you're not a writer. By matching your research with the professional skills of a ghostwriter, you will create a product far better than you could alone.

On the other hand, if you are a writer, you may wish to have the assistance of an experienced, published expert- especially if you are writing outside of your normal genre.

Can You Handle it Alone?

Perhaps a better question would be: Do you want to? If you haven't gotten to the meat of the writing yet and are dreading it with every fiber of your being, why put yourself through the mental torture when you don't have to? A ghostwriter will complete your project with fresh enthusiasm. And the beauty of it is, you will get all the credit.

Are Your Grammar and Spelling Skills Top Notch?

Don't underestimate the importance of correct grammar and spelling. Editors are nitpicky about these things and simple mistakes come across as a sign of incompetence. Rather than second guess your commas and syntax, it is much easier to allow a ghostwriter to do the job for you.

Do You Have Something Else You Would Rather Be Doing?

That's really what it comes down to. Life is short - much too short to be spent sitting at your desk staring at a blank piece of paper. Enjoy time with your friends and family instead of frustrating yourself with an overwhelming project. A ghostwriter will take care of the writing, while you're doing what you do best.

No matter what your reasons are, there are a great many services that a ghostwriter can provide, taking work and tedious writing off your hands. You only stand to gain from the arrangement. Unless you are 100% confident in your writing skills and ability to finish the project quickly and efficiently, the real question is: Why not use a ghostwriter?
